Shops

Cambridge is home to many unique, independent boutiques and a week-round market, as well as the usual high street favourites. The city’s three shopping centres: The Grafton, Lion Yard and Grand Arcade, have everything to offer students on a budget, whilst the All Saints Craft Market is home to a host of unique, quirky and handmade goodies to get your hands on

Bene’t Street Area, also known as the Arts Quarter, features an eclectic mix of entertainment and shopping venues such as Cambridge Contemporary Crafts and The Cambridge Fabric Company, while Green Street is one of the most picturesque shopping areas the city has to offer.

Food

Cambridge is home to many affordable restaurants and inspiring cafes perfect for student life. Whether you’re sampling the weekly special at Bread & Meat or getting some last-minute studying in at Fitzbillies, there’s something to satiate you no matter what.

For the more health-conscious, pay Espresso Library or The Garden Kitchen a visit, or if you’ve got more of a sweet tooth, head to Caffe Mobile or Afternoon Tease for some of the city’s most delicious treats.

Music

Cambridge is a city with a wide variety of tastes, which means a variety of music venues with something to suit everyone. Cambridge Junction consistently puts on good gigs with a ‘fiver’ night, giving people the chance to see five upcoming bands for just five pounds.

Hidden Rooms Liquor Loft and 2468 host open mic nights on Mondays and Wednesdays consecutively, and Tram Depot has regular jazz nights. For larger gigs and bigger names, the Cambridge Corn Exchange is one of the UK’s most popular music and arts venues.

Nightlife

While students may not to choose Cambridge simply for its bustling nightlife, there are still many places to go to enjoy a great night out with friends. The Eagle, for example, is a favourite amongst Cambridge students, and just so happens to be the pub where the discovery of DNA was announced!

Other notable mentions are Clare Cellars, knowns for its cheap drinks, intimate atmosphere and live music, and Lola Lo, a fun tiki bar in the centre of town that serves great cocktails, student deals and even better vibes.

Culture

The city of Cambridge has an interesting history, and a well-respected culture. Known for nurturing some of the world’s best brains in comedy, theatre, science and engineering, there is a reason Cambridge is known for its own unique culture.

For those wanting to immerse themselves in one of the most diverse art museums in the country, The Fitzwilliam Museum is really a must-see, while Kettle’s Yard is a hidden gem and home to a collection of contemporary art and workshops. Cambridge is also home to its very own Imperial War Museum, and the Polar Museum, which tells the stories of polar explorations throughout history.
